Jonathan Snowden is an award-winning American composer and conductor, raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Mexico City, Mexico. He studied composition on a full scholarship with Zhou Long (Pulitzer Prize Winner), Chen Yi, Paul Rudy, and Jim Mobberley. He has received mentorship with three additional Pulitzer-Prize winning composers: John Corigliano, Bernard Rands, and Steven Stucky. Snowden is the winner of the Arnold Schönberg Prize in Vienna and the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award.
As a self-taught conductor, Snowden won the Festival Orchestra Award, President of the Jury Prize, and the “Second Wiener Schule” Contemporary Music Prize in the Vienna International Conducting Competiton "Wiener Schule" at the Musikverein in Austria. He was subsequently invited to study with Maestro Jin Wang in Vienna and serve as his assistant.
Jonathan Snowden is winner of the Audience Prize and 3rd Prize at the Los Angeles Conducting Competition, 1st Prize in the Schubert International Music Competition, 2nd Prize in the Vienna New Year’s Concert International Music Competition, the Special Talent Award and a Special Mention "for charisma and career potential" in the Bucharest BMI International Conducting Competition.
Snowden has conducted numerous professional orchestras across Europe, North and South America, and Asia, including the MÁV Symphony Orchestra, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, Bucharest Philharmonic, Craiova "Oltenia" Philharmonic Orchestra, Taipei City Symphony Orchestra, Joseph Haydn Symphony Wien, Orchestra Cupidas, and the Maggio Musicale in Florence.
He has received conducting mentorship in international festivals and masterclasses from maestros including Jorma Panula, Günter Neuhold, Győriványi Ráth György, Neil Thomson, John Axelrod, Vladimir Kiradjiev, Kirk Trevor, Dianne Wittry, and Jin Wang.
He currently splits his time between Vienna, Austria and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
